In 1955 Mangravite working with Columbia University and the United States embassies traveled to Europe interviewing some of the outstanding artists. He visited university art department faculty and recorded interviews with the artists. During this time he spoke with artists such as Braque, Chagall, Tamayo and de Chirico. The interviews were incorporated in to Mangravite's teaching, a program which according to the Archives of American art places him "among the pioneers in making oral histories of artists for educational purposes." These interviews were donated to the archives in 1977, with more documentation being donated by the family in 2003.
